The Five Solas
The Five Solas are five Latin phrases that emerged out of the Protestant Reformation. They are very helpful as they summarize basic theological beliefs which the Reformers believed to be essentials of the Christian life and practice.
Sola Scriptura
The Bible is the sole written divine revelation and it alone can bind the conscience of believers.
Sola Fide
Justification is by faith alone. The righteousness of Christ imputed to us by faith is the sole ground of our acceptance by God, by which our sins are remitted.
Solus Christus
Christ is the only mediator through whose work we are redeemed.
Sola Gratia
Our salvation rests solely on the work of God's grace for us and in us.
Soli Deo Gloria
To God alone belongs the glory.
